During my studies of Social and Cultural Anthropology I became aware of how important intercultural exchange and dialogue are in a world that is building up borders – both physical and psychological ones – to protect the so-called “developed” nations from people living in seemingly poor countries.
I believe that it is very important to challenge such policies of exclusion, to establish social networks that cross borders and to recognize and value the creative potential of cultural diversity. International volunteering is one way of doing so – just like travelling, writing and sharing stories. This is what influenced my decision to volunteer in Ghana and to write about my journey.
I am currently working and living in Berlin.
